Donald Trump Faces Backlash for Appearing on 24K Gold Coin

The internet is buzzing after the administration revealed plans for a commemorative 24K gold coin featuring President Donald Trump, and not everyone is impressed. The design, intended to mark America’s 250th birthday, has led to discussions online.

Donald Trump will appear on 24K gold coin and internet has thoughts

The Commission of Fine Arts approved a design on March 19 for a 24K gold coin that shows Donald Trump hunched over a desk with his fists resting on the surface. The photo presents Trump surrounded by 13 stars, six on one side and seven on the other.

Commission Vice Chair James McCrery expressed enthusiasm for the project during the approval meeting. “I motion to approve this as presented, and with the strong encouragement that you make it as large as possible, all the way to three inches in diameter,” McCrery said (via CNN).

The coin, designed to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, quickly became a trending topic on X (formerly Twitter), where users shared their reactions to the Donald Trump 24K gold coin. Several people raised concerns about featuring a living president on currency. One user wrote, “Isn’t it a law that no living person can be put on American currency? Or is it just a strong recommendation to not do that?”

Others focused on the artistic quality of the design. “It’s also very badly done,” one person posted, while another added, “Holy s*** is that terrible.”

Another criticism suggested the coin misses the point of the anniversary entirely. “Why do people cater to Trump’s desire to have his name on everything?” one user asked. “The design of this coin is pathetic. It does not celebrate the country’s anniversary. It is clearly all about Trump. Why?”

The commission’s approval moves the project forward, though online reaction suggests Donald Trump’s 24K gold coin faces an uphill battle for public acceptance.
