Donald Trump Claims Iran Sent Him a ‘Big Present’

President Donald Trump made an unexpected claim recently, stating that Iran had sent him a “big present” amid the ongoing war in the Middle East, even as his administration moves forward with plans to deploy thousands of additional troops to the region.

Donald Trump talks about Iran’s gift

Speaking at the White House on March 24, Donald Trump told reporters that Iran had sent him something valuable. He called it a “present,” then upgraded it to a “prize,” then settled on calling it “very big” and worth “a tremendous amount of money.”

What was it? He would not say. Only that it arrived that day, that it involved oil and gas. Also, it proved to him he was “dealing with the right people.” When a reporter asked whether the gift was nuclear-related, Trump responded: “No, it wasn’t nuclear related—it was oil and gas related, and they did a very nice thing.”

The timing of this gift has raised eyebrows as Donald Trump has given a mix of declarations about the state of the war, telling reporters, “We’ve won this war.” He added, “The only one who likes to keep it going is the fake news.” The president insisted that Iran is prepared to negotiate while referring to the gift, stating, “They’re gonna make a deal.” He claimed Iran had agreed never to develop a nuclear weapon. However, Iran continues to deny that negotiations have gained any traction publicly.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the same day that the Pentagon is drawing up a written order to deploy the 82nd Airborne Combat Brigade to the Middle East. Planning reportedly involves sending a brigade combat team of about 3,000 soldiers from the division.

As of now, no official announcement has been made about ground troops. But when asked who would control the Strait if the Iran war ended, Donald Trump replied, “We’ll have control of anything we want (via The Daily Beast).”
