NBC Staff Given Strict Orders Ahead of Savannah Guthrie’s Return — Source

Two months after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared, Savannah Guthrie made it back to the studio. On Monday, she hosted the NBC “Today” show with co-host Craig Melvin. However, as per the sources, NBC staff were given strict orders not to mention Nancy’s disappearance and were told to “act totally normal.”

Savannah Guthrie returned to Rockefeller Plaza’s Studio 1A on Monday morning to host NBC’s “Today” show with Craig Melvin on her side. She wore a short-sleeved yellow lace dress, which seemed like a symbol of hope amid the search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie. Nancy disappeared two months ago from her Arizona residence.

Sources told Page Six that NBC staffers and co-hosts were explicitly instructed to maintain a “business as usual” atmosphere during her return to the show. Additionally, ahead of the broadcast, the co-hosts were also instructed not to address the disappearance of Nancy. Instructions included avoiding a formal welcome for Savannah back on the show, as well.

“It was supposed to be business as usual, [producers] said to act totally normal,” said a source. “‘Move forward’ is the vibe. It’s been a hard year and a draining time.”

However, the source revealed that, while the host put on a brave face in front of the camera, things were quite different behind the lens. Savannah was visibly emotional off-screen. “There were lots of hugs… Coming back to a routine brings a sense of normalcy,” revealed a source. They further added that Savannah is prepared to go back to Arizona if needed.

Another tipster even lauded Savannah’s courage to face the camera again. They admitted that she is the “heart” of the morning show, and everyone needed her back. Although Savannah is still in pain, the source claims that her “bravery and strength” prevail, and her “faith is unmatched.” They added that during such a difficult time, just as she needed to come home to her kids and husband, “she also needed to come home to her ‘Today’ family.”
