Kim Kardashian’s Broadway Role Is Bigger Than You Think

Kim Kardashian has figured out another way to showcase her criminal justice work before a huge audience, and this time it is on a Broadway stage. Kardashian has joined the producing team of “The Fear of 13,” a wrongful-conviction drama now in previews at the James Earl Jones Theatre — and this is not her showing up for a photo op. The play stars Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson and opens on April 15.

Kim Kardashian is attaching her influence and her money to the Broadway production built around a real case — Nick Yarris, a man who spent more than two decades on death row for a murder he did not commit. Brody plays Yarris while Thompson plays Jacki, a volunteer who visits him in prison, and their conversations drive the story.

In a statement Deadline shared, Kardashian said, “My commitment to criminal justice reform has always been about more than just policy – it’s about people,” while pointing to storytelling as the reason she wanted to be involved.

She said, “I’ve learned that sometimes the most effective way to change minds is through a powerful story. The Fear of 13 is that story.” Moreover, the SKIMS founder called the play “a raw, honest look at Nick Yarris’s wrongful conviction” and said, “I couldn’t be prouder to make my Broadway producing debut with a project that carries such vital weight.”

The show comes from writer Lindsey Ferrentino and director David Cromer. Additionally, it links up with the Innocence Project, an organization focused on freeing wrongfully convicted people and urging for fairer systems. Kardashian joins a producing group that includes Seaview, Wessex Grove, and Gavin Kalin Productions.

The producers clarified that they see Kardashian as more than a famous name on the list, saying, “The message this play carries with it is urgent and we welcome Ms. Kardashian and her activism to this production and to our Broadway community.” They added that they were “proud to be collaborating with her.”
