Last month, Alan Ritchson made headlines for beating up a guy in the middle of the street, and that doesn’t seem to have hurt his career in any way. If anything, it might have helped because he just landed an exciting new deal at Netflix.
Following the blockbuster success of his Netflix movie War Machine, he’s now about to lead a new reality show that sounds a little bit like I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. Keep on reading for all of the details, and get ready for a whole lot more Alan on your screens.
The Reacher star is heading into the wilderness with the streaming giant
According to a report from Deadline, Netflix just greenlit a new survival-based reality show. The show still doesn’t have a name, but Alan is leading a group of “high-profile creators and headline-makers” into the wilderness for a series of challenges that will test their ability to exist outside the comforts of modern life.
The logline teases, “Competition, alliances, and egos collide as this group puts public reputations on the line, testing players’ self-reliance, problem-solving, and grit.”
The show is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, famous for bringing us iconic shows like The Real World and, more recently, Vanderpump Villa. Alan will serve as an executive producer in addition to his starring role.
What’s interesting about this announcement is that it ignores the fact that Alan already had another survivalist reality show in the works with Bunim/Murray. Last summer, he announced that he was working on a show called Predator vs. Prey that would feature alums from Survivor.
“The group will be divided into two groups, with Predators able to bank up to $500,000 for capturing Prey, who earn cash prizes for staying in the game,” the synopsis explained. “Each episode will feature a different challenge that changes the game and forces Prey out of hiding.”
We’re not sure if no networks wanted to buy the show. Or, maybe they realized that Predator vs. Prey sounded less like a reality show and more like a sci-fi movie.
Either way, we’re still getting a Survivor-ish show with Alan, and that’s something to celebrate. Keep your eyes peeled for more details from Netflix as production starts ramping up.
