Recent geopolitical developments seem to have shaken Donald Trump’s trust in JD Vance, with reports suggesting that the President has started to compare his right-hand man with the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. The update comes after the President initiated peace talks with Iran, with Vance headlining the operation in Pakistan. With the first round of negotiations bearing no fruit, rumors of him losing faith in the Vice President have started to take shape.
Donald Trump reportedly comparing JD Vance and Marco Rubio
The POTUS has reportedly started to closely monitor the Vice President’s handling of the peace talks with Iran, even asking his friends and advisors to rank the latter’s performance.
According to CNN, in accordance, Donald Trump has begun comparing JD Vance to Marco Rubio, as per three people familiar with the situation. He seems to trust Vance with the responsibility of leading the peace talks with Iran for now, with the VP currently on standby to return to Pakistan if things come together. Yet, Trump is seemingly keeping a watchful eye on how things transpire.
“If it doesn’t happen, I’m blaming JD Vance. If it does happen, I’m taking full credit,” Trump said of the Iran deal during an Easter lunch earlier this month.
In recent times, JD Vance has inadvertently come in the crosshairs of Donald Trump, regarding the Iran war, as well as the latter’s ordeal with Pope Leo XIV. While he has supported the two-time President at every step of the Middle Eastern conflict, he did oppose the idea of war behind closed doors. Moreover, Vance recently remarked that he understood why “young voters do not love the policy we have in the Middle East.”
Being a devoted Catholic, JD Vance also found himself in an awkward position when Donald Trump targeted the Pope for opposing the Iran war. “It doesn’t bother me when [the President] speaks on issues of the day, frankly, even when I disagree with how he’s applying particular principles,” he responded.
Furthermore, Vance’s decision to publicly back Viktor Orbán in the Hungarian elections backfired spectacularly after the latter tasted a crushing defeat. Nevertheless, with the Vice President’s approval rating presently sitting at an all-time low, it looks like an uphill battle for him from here on.
