On April 16, Donald Trump made a speech addressing tax cuts and tax tips in Las Vegas. During the speech, he made a shocking claim about his age group.
“In addition to no tax on Social Security,” the 79-year-old said, “over 51 million seniors now pay [nothing] … Seniors are loving me, and I love them. Of course, I’m not a senior, so you know …”
Despite laughter in the crowd, he continued: “I cater to the seniors, but I don’t happen to be a senior myself.”

Trump will turn 80 on June 14. All denials aside, in this country a senior citizen is considered to be anyone 65 or older. So there you have it.
In spite of claims that he was just kidding, Trump received some backlash on social media.
“You are a senior whether you like it or not @realDonaldTrump,” one person wrote on X, while another expressed, “This man has lost his damn mind.”
“The dementia is real and we are watching it happen on TV every day,” a third person said. “Shame on his cabinet and advisors for encouraging his obviously batsh*t crazy comments and ideas.”
“Really wondering at what point the media will start zeroing in on the undeniable fact that POTUS inhabits a delusional alternate reality,” wrote a fourth responder. “He is, by definition, a senior citizen, and has been for quite some time. The harm caused by his breaks from reality is going to get worse.”
For someone who claims he’s “not a senior,” he has several age-related health issues. Though he says his doctors have told him he’s in “perfect health,” he has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency. CVI causes blood to collect in the legs, leading to swollen ankles.
Reporters have also noticed chronic bruising on his hands, and he often dozes off during cabinet meetings. He’s also bragged about his multiple cognitive tests and CT scans, claiming he “aced” every one, though no results were ever publicly released.
Despite denying his age, in January, Trump did admit that he is now “older than pretty much everybody in the room.”
