Gavin Newsom’s Wife Slams Donald Trump’s ‘Attacks’ During 60 Minutes Interview

Jessica Siebel Newsom, the wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom, has blasted Donald Trump for the manner in which he spoke to 60 Minutes anchor Norah O’Donnell in a recent interview. The seasoned documentary filmmaker penned a lengthy note on social media, criticizing the president for his on-air behavior and highlighting its impact on misogyny in the country.

On April 27, the First Partner of California took to her X (formerly Twitter) profile to share her views on Donald Trump’s 60 Minutes interview with Norah O’Donnell.

Describing the interview as shocking, Newsom noted, “Seeing a president speak to a woman journalist with that level of contempt — and a clear allergy to facts — is disturbing, though at this point not unexpected given his pattern of behavior. But that is the problem. Because when that level of disrespect from the highest office in the country repeats itself, it starts to trickle down into our culture and define what power looks like, shaping how boys and plenty of men see women and girls and what they come to accept as normal behavior.”

Notably, the exchange between Donald Trump and O’Donnell became heated when she brought up the manifesto of the WHCD shooting suspect, Cole Tomas Allen. As O’Donnell read out Allen’s words, repeating his accusation “pedophile, rapist, and traitor,” Trump admonished O’Donnell by calling her “a disgrace.” He further noted that O’Donnell “should be ashamed” for reading the manifesto out loud.

Condemning Trump’s behavior, Gavin Newsom’s wife further noted that “this cultural norm of hate, othering, and misogyny becomes pervasive” in a digital ecosystem that amplifies “rhetoric rooted in political division.”

“It’s no wonder we have a culture that normalizes dominance and aggression toward women and girls, which not only silences them but also leads to internalized misogyny in others,” she continued. Jennifer Siebel Newsom concluded her account by thanking Norah O’Donnell and other such female journalists for bravely speaking “truth to power,” before adding, “This culture of misogyny is on all of us, and it has to end.”
