Jurassic Park Star Sam Neill Thrilled To Announce He’s Cancer Free After Long Battle; Thought ‘I Was On The Way Out’

There’s some encouraging news about Sam Neill’s condition. The actor from movies like Jurassic Park was diagnosed with stage-three blood cancer years ago. The man who holds UK, Irish and New Zealand citizenship recently opened up about how he’s doing.

Recently, Sam shared that he’s cancer-free, something he didn’t see coming a while back. “It looked like I was on the way out,” admitted Sam in a recent interview.

The odds appeared to be stacked against him, but Sam refused to give in. In an interview with Australian network 7News, Sam shared, “I’ve been living with a particular type of lymphoma for about five years.” He admits that while undergoing chemotherapy, he was “pretty miserable,” but he kept fighting, nonetheless.

There was a point when the therapy wasn’t working, leaving the Golden Globe nominee with a sense of hopelessness. That is a feeling many who get cancer might feel at some point in their battle. Reality star Teddi Mellencamp said in April 2025 that she had maybe a “50/50” shot at overcoming her cancer. In the latter part of that year, she announced that there was “no detectable cancer” in her melanoma battle.

Sam underwent some cutting-edge treatment for his cancer, which genetically modifies blood cells. The treatment evidently has been successful. He shared that he recently had a scan, which showed he had no cancer. Given everything that he’s been through, he says this news is “an extraordinary thing.”

As for what’s next, Sam is eager to get back to his acting career. He last portrayed Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park franchise in 2022. His upcoming film, The Last Resort, is in post-production, while Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is set to hit theatres in March 2027.
