Trump highlighted the long shared history between the US and the UK in his speech, along with several other international affairs. However, the president interrupted his prepared script after referring to the two nations’ “unstoppable daring, this unconquerable courage.” He went on to say, “And speaking of that, where’s Rory McIlroy? Can you stand up, Rory?”

The crowd erupted in cheers for McIlroy as Trump congratulated the star golfer on his recent Masters win. “That was unconquerable courage,” the president said, adding, “That was very good, Rory.”

The POTUS then said, “I had to interrupt my speech ‘cos I watched that man win a tournament.” McIlroy won the 2026 Masters Tournament in April, securing his second consecutive win following his 2025 victory.

“That was a tough one,” Trump said. “Congratulations. Very proud of you. All right. Now, I’ll get back to my speech Rory, okay?” the president added before resuming his prepared speech.

Trump had previously congratulated McIlroy in an April 13 Truth Social post, shortly after his Masters victory. The president stated that the golfing champ “performed tremendously under intense pressure, something which few people would be able to even think about doing.”

Trump added, “With each year, Rory is becoming more and more a LEGEND! I look forward to watching him compete in two weeks at Doral. The quality of Professional Golfers today has become extraordinary, each and every one of them.”
