King Charles And Queen Camilla Pay Their Respects At 9/11 Monument In New York During US Trip

The royal family haven’t forgotten about the tragedy that rocked New York City in the early part of this century. On Wednesday, King Charles and Queen Camilla were in the Big Apple visiting the 9/11 Memorial. The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, saw nearly 3,000 people killed, making it the deadliest act of terrorism in human history.

After being in Washington, D.C. for two days, Charles and Camilla spent Wednesday in New York.

Wednesday was a sombre one for the two royals during their visit to the city that never sleeps. Accompanied by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Charles and Camilla laid bouquets at the edge of the memorial pools to pay homage to those who lost their lives years ago.

September of this year will mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Countless lives were destroyed that day, with the World Trade Center collapsing as a result. One World Trade Center was opened in 2014. Charles and Camilla also met with first responders during their New York visit, who took part in the rescue efforts following the 9/11 attacks. Mayor Zohran Mamdani had the chance to chat with the two royals.

Charles and Camilla recently embarked on a four-day visit to the US. Experts say the King showed “fear and doubt” ahead of meeting Donald Trump once again. The POTUS and Melania previously visited Charles and Camilla last year.

The King and Queen will conclude their NYC visit with more engagement, including a reception celebrating the King’s Trust. That’s a charity Charles founded to help empower young people to find employment or start a business. The royals previously attended numerous events commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence from the UK.
