Losing a parent is hard enough. But months before Owning Manhattan star Jade Shenker lost Marc Shenker, her father, she experienced a second, deep cut. As to why, Jade had to approach the courts, since she was battling his guardian, Bonnie Stevens, over her ailing father’s finances. Here’s why.

In the months leading up to Marc’s passing, Jade accused Bonnie of isolating her father. As Jade explained and showed online, Bonnie ignored her texts. All Jade wanted to do was visit with her father, Jade stressed. Also, Jade accused Bonnie of ignoring signs of elder abuse, the very thing that Bonnie was originally hired to suss out.
Marc’s guardianship went into effect in 2022, aimed at managing his declining health and significant financial assets. In arrangements such as these, guardians typically assist with financial and personal decisions for an incapacitated person. However, as TMZ just reported, Bonnie allegedly refused to provide Jade with her father’s financial documents, specifically the files related to his home in New York.
But as this guardian supposedly claimed, Jade was not entitled to that information. Jade pushed back, though. She was seeking to refinance her father’s home, solely to cover his expenses. Meanwhile, Bonnie was trying to sell Marc’s house for this very same matter.
So, months before his death, Jade approached the courts, arguing that mismanagement and a failure to explore refinancing options contributed to the situation that led to Bonnie’s proposed sale. Then, Bonnie reportedly responded, noting that the delays caused by their dispute made refinancing complicated.
Two weeks ago, Marc passed away. Jade has serious doubts about the authorities’ findings, which labeled his death as natural. So, Jade has plans to pursue an independent autopsy of her father.
