Lily Collins is celebrating the life and legacy of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons. Ahead of her upcoming movie tied to “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” the actress shared a touching birthday tribute to Audrey Hepburn on Instagram. The post arrives at a time when Collins is preparing to take on a role closely connected to Hepburn’s cinematic history.
Lily Collins feels ‘honored’ to step into Audrey Hepburn’s shoes as she pays homage to late Hollywood legend
To celebrate what would have been Audrey Hepburn’s 97th birthday, Lily Collins posted a classic image from the 1957 film “Funny Face.” The photo, shared on May 4, showed Hepburn in a chic black dress and a matching hat, holding a cluster of colorful balloons. Alongside the photo, Collins wrote that Hepburn “always brought a bit of color into every life she touched” and called her an “undeniable legend.” She also added that she felt “honored to be stepping into her shoes.”
The timing of the post is especially notable because Collins is set to star in a film inspired by the making of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Reports like PEOPLE suggest the project is based on Sam Wasson’s nonfiction book “Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the Dawn of the Modern Woman,” which explores the production and legacy of the iconic 1961 film. Writer and producer Alena Smith is said to be developing the screenplay.
When Collins first announced the project in February, she revealed that it had allegedly been in development for almost a decade. She spoke openly about her lifelong admiration for Hepburn and said words like “honored” and “ecstatic” barely captured how she felt about the opportunity.
Even members of Hepburn’s family have reportedly shared an interest in the project. Her son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, previously revealed to Woman’s World that he was “very excited” for the film and praised Collins’ work in Netflix’s “Emily in Paris.” That said, he also admitted he was curious to see how the behind-the-scenes story of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” would translate into a feature film.
