Justin Theroux reportedly missed the 2026 Met Gala after portraying a character allegedly inspired by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in The Devil Wears Prada 2. According to insider claims, Bezos was unhappy with the portrayal.
Sources reportedly told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice, a platform run by Rob Shuter, that Theroux’s character closely resembled Bezos. “Justin’s character is Jeff, plain and simple,” one insider reportedly said. “And Jeff has zero sense of humor when the joke is about him — or Lauren. He can laugh at almost anything else. But mock him, mock her, and you’re done.”
Theroux’s character reportedly appears opposite Emily Blunt’s character in the sequel, with some reports claiming Blunt’s role was inspired by Lauren Sánchez. According to the report, the portrayal allegedly contributed to Theroux’s Met Gala invitation being revoked.
“Jeff did not find it funny,” another source reportedly told Rob Shuter. “Not the parody, not the performance, not the Lauren angle — none of it.” The source added, “And once Jeff was offended, Justin was never getting through that door.”
Reports have also suggested that Bezos and Lauren Sánchez held significant influence surrounding this year’s Met Gala. According to another unnamed source, Anna Wintour ultimately sided with Bezos amid the controversy. “Anna follows power, and this year power came with Jeff’s money,” the source reportedly said. “Jeff paid too much to be mocked in his own room.”
