The face of Survivor is experiencing a devastating loss. Jeff Probst has hosted the popular reality show since its beginning over 25 years ago. His brother Scott previously worked on the program and is credited on a handful of episodes.
Scott died at the age of 58. This sad news comes in the middle of his brother’s show, celebrating its 50th season. There are seven contestants remaining in the battle for $2 million, in a season that has been put in the hands of the fans.
Scott Probst’s death was announced by Jeff’s other brother Brent
It’s some somber news for Survivor as we inch closer towards the big finale of season 50. Scott’s brother Brent announced his death on his Instagram account on Monday. Brent called him a “great brother, son and friend.” He went on to say, “I will miss him so much,” and “I’m so sad he’s gone.”
Over its lengthy run on television, Survivor has often paid tributes at the conclusion of its episodes when one of its cast or crew members past or present has died. In July of 2024, the show lost one of its early contestants when Survivor Africa runner-up Kim Johnson died at 79.
A few months after losing a member of the Survivor family, Jeff lost a member of his immediate family. His mother, Barb, died in November of 2024. The show honored her with a tribute card on an episode in season 47.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Jeff and the show’s crew, including Scott, Survivor has remained on the air and thrived after all these years. It has been nominated for Outstanding Reality/Competition Program numerous times. For his part, Jeff has won Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program on several occasions. Scott’s death and the manner of it remain unclear.
