Donald Trump’s Administration Faces Another Major Resignation

Donald Trump’s administration just faced another major shakeup behind closed doors. A key resignation has sparked fresh attention as new changes continue unfolding across the administration’s leadership.

Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks resigns from Donald Trump administration

According to Al Jazeera, US Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks resigned Thursday during continuing leadership changes within President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement agencies. Banks told Fox News, “It’s just time” for him to leave after roughly one year and four months leading the agency. He also said, “I feel like I got the ship back on course from the least secure, disastrous, chaotic border to the most secure border this country has ever seen.” Furthermore, Banks added, “Time to pass the reigns [sic].”

Meanwhile, Banks said he wanted “to enjoy family and life” after decades working in border enforcement. Previously, he served as Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s “border czar” after leaving Border Patrol in 2023. Rodney Scott, commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection, thanked Banks for his “decades of service” in a public statement. Scott also stated, “During his time as Chief, the border was transformed from chaos to the most secure border ever recorded.”

Additionally, Banks’s resignation followed several recent departures inside the Department of Homeland Security. In March, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem lost her position amid scrutiny over spending and immigration enforcement operations. Subsequently, the administration reassigned Noem to the Shield of the Americas security initiative. In April, acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Todd Lyons announced his departure after criticism regarding detention policies and enforcement tactics.

Moreover, Democrats on the House Committee on Homeland Security referenced reports accusing Banks of soliciting prostitutes while abroad. Their social media account stated, “Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks has RESIGNED following prostitution allegations. Good riddance.”

A Customs and Border Protection spokesperson told the Washington Examiner that investigators reviewed the allegations and closed the matter. Meanwhile, the administration confirmed former senator Markwayne Mullin as Homeland Security secretary and named former Geo Group executive David Venturella acting ICE director.
