Actors Martin Short and Meryl Streep stepped out together, quieting rumors that their relationship had ended. The longtime friends first sparked romance rumors back in 2024. However, there were rumblings that the duo’s relationship was falling apart following the tragic death of Martin’s daughter, Katherine Short.
The couple appear to still be going strong
Following Katherine’s suicide, Martin allegedly looked to Meryl for support. “Meryl has been incredibly supportive. She’s not making it about headlines,” an insider claimed. “She’s simply there.”
Martin’s family issued a statement following Katherine’s death, which read in part, “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
Meanwhile, Martin and Meryl appeared together in Seasons 3, 4, and 5 of the Hulu comedy Only Murders in the Building. They have often been spotted together at awards shows and events, and clearly enjoy each other’s company.
Recently, the duo was snapped looking cozy in London. They were seated at a restaurant table while Meryl leaned close to Martin to look at a phone. A fan posted the photo via X, writing in the caption, “Spending a few days in London, picking a restaurant at random, and ending up eating just a few meters away from Meryl Streep and her husband.”
However, Martin and Meryl have never confirmed their romantic relationship, with Martin’s rep stating in 2024 that the twosome were only friends. Meanwhile, earlier this year, reports surfaced that the actors were getting close to tying the knot.
“Neither one of them probably ever imagined they’d find love again at this stage of their lives. They seem like two teens in high school,” a source claimed. Meanwhile, in 2025, another insider noted that Martin and Meryl connected over the death of their exes and had no plans to wed. “They’re happy dating as boyfriend and girlfriend,” the insider said.
