Colin Jost Says ‘Ye Was Right About Hitler’ During SNL Joke Swap

During Saturday Night Live’s joke swap segment in the finale, Michael Che made Colin Jost say that Kanye West was right about Hitler. Shortly before, Jost also made Che say a controversial statement about Michael Jackson. This joke swap segment, which marks breaks and finales, is among the most unhinged moments on the sketch comedy show. This year, too, fans were left stunned with some extremely dark jokes.

Colin Jost jokes about Kanye West on SNL segment

Colin Jost and Michael Che have had the joke swap segment on Saturday Night Live! before breaks and finales for nearly a decade now, and it is one practice that never gets old.

In this offbeat tradition, Che and Jost write each other’s jokes. Adding to the thrill of this, the pair does not get a pre-read. This means that they have to say the jokes live on air, irrespective of what the other person has written. For instance, many of the jokes Che previously gave to Jost included jokes about the latter’s wife, Scarlett Johansson.

This year, the segment saw both hosts defending controversial music icons.

After discussions surrounding sexual dysfunction, Black vampires, and Barbie’s autism doll, the pair were forced to defend extremely controversial musicians.

Reading out Jost’s joke, Che had to say, “I wanted to take a moment to tell everybody what I really think. Michael Jackson did nothing wrong. He was right to molest all those kids.”

Right after, Che got Jost. Jost ended up saying, “Ye has released a new album called ‘Bully.’ So, please try to separate the art from the artist…Ye can make awful music and still be right about Hitler.”

With this episode on May 16, 2026, SNL concluded its 51st season. It is currently on summer hiatus and will return with new episodes for Season 52 in the fall.
