More than 100 days after Nancy Guthrie, mother of TODAY host Savannah Guthrie, went missing, Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed that he is not in direct contact with the family members.
According to People Magazine, Nanos stated about his detectives and the FBI, “If they need the family for anything, they get in touch with them and the family. It works both ways.”
Sheriff Chris Nanos confirms there is no ongoing contact with Nancy Guthrie’s relatives
Nancy Guthrie was reportedly abducted from her Tucson home on February 1. Sheriff Chris Nanos and his team have been investigating the case from the start and have claimed to heavily use digital evidence to trace Guthrie’s last known activities.
Nanos has stated that his team and the FBI are going through numerous files, DNA evidence, and thousands of public tips to narrow down the culprit. This recent revelation may intensify public speculation, though Nanos has repeatedly assured the public of no negligence on their part.
Nanos has been in talks with the victim’s daughter, Savannah Guthrie, 54, since the beginning of the investigation. However, their communication today is selective and on a need-to-know basis.
According to Nanos, “We text or, every now and then, a phone call,” he said. “But no, I’ve not even sat down with her face-to-face. She’s got a lot on her plate. The FBI, my detectives, and those they’ve been talking with her face-to-face. She doesn’t need to talk to me.”
Guthrie’s family has announced a $1 million reward for any information leading to recovery or arrest, along with an additional $100,000 reward offered by the FBI. When asked for reactions regarding the progress of investigations, Savannah reportedly commented, “we need answers. We cannot be at peace without knowing…”
