Vice President JD Vance recently left a room full of reporters laughing when he took the podium in the White House on Tuesday. While talking to the press, he joked about the condition he had for agreeing to fill in for White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt while she is on maternity leave after welcoming her daughter in May. As per The Sun, in the light-hearted exchange, Vance revealed that Leavitt will take over his post temporarily when he and his wife, Usha, welcome their baby in July.
“It’s cool to be here. I want to give a shout out, of course, to the person I am replacing today, Karoline Leavitt, who hopefully is at home enjoying some time with her beautiful kids,” Vance said, before joking that, he told the new mom that he “would stand in for her today for the White House press briefing on the condition that when Usha has our baby in July, that she would be Vice President for a couple of weeks.” His words instantly drew laughter from the reporters.
Leavitt welcomed her second child with her husband, Nicholas Riccio, on May 1. The couple is also parents to a son, Niko. Leavitt announced the birth of her baby girl, Vivi, on Instagram with a photo of her cuddling her daughter. Meanwhile, the Second Lady Usha announced she is pregnant with her fourth child in a post on X, saying she is looking forward to welcoming a boy in late July. The couple shares three young children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.
