JD Vance Brings King Charles Into ‘No Kings’ Protest Argument

The Vice President’s comments once again seem to have landed him in the headlines, albeit for the wrong reasons. JD Vance recently tried to highlight the apparent hypocrisy displayed by Democrats in their “No Kings” protests, but presented a flawed argument by bringing up King Charles III’s visit to the US in the dispute. As such, he has faced severe backlash on social media, with netizens picking apart his questionable reasoning.

JD Vance asks bizarre question about Democrats ‘No Kings’ protest

During a May 19 press conference, the US Vice President targeted the ongoing “No Kings” protest. He argued that Democrats are hypocrites for not opposing the British monarch’s recent trip to the States.

“They’re putting up signs that say ‘No Kings.’ [The Democrats are] very, very insistent that we not have kings. And then King Charles comes to the congressional chamber, and these guys break out in rapturous applause,” JD Vance noted, as per a clip shared by journalist Aaron Rupar.

Vance further added, “So maybe they don’t care so much about kings as much as they pretended they do. Maybe they just don’t like the agenda that we’re implementing, that’s actually making American workers and American families safe and prosperous again.”

Notably, the “No Kings” protest deals with the nationwide demonstrations happening in the country since 2025. They are in opposition to Donald Trump’s second-term administration and policies. Hence, Vance’s decision to counter the protest by mentioning King Charles has baffled many on the internet.

One X (formerly Twitter) user simplified things for the VP by writing, “‘No Kings’ is about not wanting an American president acting above the law…not about protesting a ceremonial monarch from another country with zero power over the US government. This isn’t complicated.”

Another user made fun of the Republican politician’s reasoning. They stated, “JD Vance discovering that ‘No Kings’ was not actually a literal anti-monarchy protest against King Charles personally is incredible stuff. By this logic Republicans can never say “Drain the Swamp” again unless they immediately start harassing alligators in Florida.”

Similarly, a third user quipped, “I’ve also never seen them protest outside of Burger King or a chess tournament. Hypocrites.” Yet another user wrote, “Safe and prosperous?????? – Mass shootings happening nearly weekly, healthcare is up, gas is up, food and other goods are up, education $ is down, corruption up, To me you want a dumb unhealthy USA. It is like watching a sitcom, or a horror movie, jurors are out on that one.”

Meanwhile, JD Vance has not yet addressed the backlash he received for his comments.
