Donald Trump Says US Could Resume Iran Attacks Within Days

President Donald Trump warns of what will happen if Iran peace talks fail. A nuclear deal, he says, may still be within reach. Speaking publicly about the ongoing nuclear standoff, Trump made clear that Washington is prepared to escalate military action if diplomacy collapses.

Trump made his remarks during a commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy, where he said the United States had already dealt severe blows to Iran’s military capabilities but left no ambiguity about what comes next if talks stall. “We hit them very hard. We may have to hit them even harder — but maybe not,” Trump said. “We will not let Iran have a nuclear weapon. It’s very simple.”

He went further, describing Iran’s armed forces as largely destroyed, framing the Iran peace deal as the only remaining alternative to further conflict. “Everything’s gone. Their navy’s gone. Their air force is gone. Just about everything. The only question is, do we go and finish it up? Are they going to be signing a document? Let’s see what happens,” Trump said.

The remarks landed at a sensitive moment. Brent Crude futures reportedly dropped nearly five percent on Wednesday after renewed optimism surfaced around a potential Washington-Tehran agreement. Fluctuating signals from the White House over war or peace have already triggered swings in global energy markets, adding economic pressure ahead of November’s congressional elections.

The broader Iran war has caused significant damage across the region. US-Israeli strikes reportedly killed thousands inside Iran before a ceasefire came into effect. Fighting involving Israel, Hezbollah, and Iranian-backed groups has displaced hundreds of thousands across Lebanon and neighboring areas.

Despite the campaign, Iran holds onto key strategic leverage: enriched uranium stockpiles, missile systems, and an active regional proxy network. Tehran’s leadership has also maintained domestic control, even after anti-government unrest earlier this year.
