Savannah Guthrie Lands HBO Cameo as Search Continues for Missing Mother

Savannah Guthrie recently appeared in an episode of Hacks, Season 5, Episode 9, while the search for her missing mother continues. Earlier this year, it was reported that Nancy Guthrie (84) disappeared from her Arizona residence following her return from a local family home.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared a recent update on the investigation, revealing that he doesn’t personally communicate with the concerned family. However, the family is summoned if the investigation demands it.

Savannah Guthrie makes cameo in HBO series

Savannah Guthrie cameoed as herself in HBO’s Hacks Season 5, Episode 9, titled “The Garden.” It premiered on May 21, 2026, and centered on Ava Daniels, who keeps pushing forward a proposal for her network reboot. Before her Madison Square Garden (MSG) show, Deborah Vance addresses the press for the final time and recruits a key member at The Diva. Then, she takes on the stage to deliver at the biggest show of her career.

Guthrie appears in a scene when she and AI share news from the studio at Rockefeller Center in New York City. Then, Deborah pops in with a sign that reads that she has news and asks whether she can come in. Guthrie says, “And those Northern Lights will be visible for the next week. So, Al, maybe we’ll get something of a show.”

AI replies that the weather looks good before turning back to see Deborah holding the sign and banging on the window. Al reconfirms Deborah’s identity with Guthrie, who later asks if they should take her in. She hits her with a “sure.”

As Deborah enters the premises, Guthrie and AI discuss how Jean Smart’s character’s boss bought all the tickets for her MSG show. AI says, “Yeah. Men are dogs.” Savannah admits, “It’s despicable.” They later play Deborah’s show, in which it’s said, “If you are in the tri-state area, get out to Central Park. See Deborah Vance, the one and only (via The Mirror US).”
