Lizzo Surprises Fans by Sharing Fun Fact About Instagram Name

Lizzo had fans doing a double-take after opening up about the real meaning behind her Instagram name. The “About Damn Time” singer recently responded to a viral social media post from a fan who admitted they had misunderstood the handle for years. What followed was a funny but surprisingly personal explanation from the rapper herself.

Lizzo reveals the real story behind her eye-catching Instagram name

The conversation began after an X (formerly Twitter) user shared a realization about Lizzo’s Instagram handle, “lizzobeeating.” The fan joked that they had been reading the name wrong the entire time and only just figured out its actual meaning. “just found out lizzo’s instagram name is lizzo be eating and not lizzo beating,” user @FENDISBLUNT wrote on Thursday. The post spread quickly online, with many users admitting they had made the same mistake.

Lizzo, born Melissa Jefferson, soon jumped into the conversation and cleared things up herself. According to the “Boys” singer, the account originally had nothing to do with music at all. “Fun Fact: I started my ig as a food blog when I was broke so I could eat for free but then my music blew up,” she wrote in response.

The revelation also gave followers a rare look back at a much earlier stage in Lizzo’s career. Long before becoming known for hits like “Good as Hell” and “Truth Hurts,” she was apparently trying to build opportunities through social media in creative ways. Fans praised the singer’s honesty, with many calling the story relatable and unexpectedly funny.

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old artist appears to be preparing for a major new chapter in her music career. Earlier this year, she announced her upcoming album, which is set for release on June 5. In an interview with PEOPLE, Lizzo shared that she prefers letting listeners define her sound rather than labeling it herself. She also said her biggest priority is creating “really good music.”
