K. Michelle recently spoke about an emotional time years ago. She opened up about people responding to her past relationship with actor Idris Elba.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star dated Idris for eight months back in 2013. It’s a relationship not many people actually know about.
In the present day, she has been married to Dr. Kastan Sims since September 2025.

K. Michelle spoke about her and Idris in a May 21 Club Shay Shay interview. She revealed that the couple didn’t disclose their relationship to the public at that time. As a result, many assumed the two were just friends and work colleagues.
“I never exposed that. We did everything together, but people thought that I was not good enough,” she recalled.
She added that people discovered the two had dated after the breakup. To her dismay, the comments were not all positive.
“To hear Charlamagne tha God say, when y’all found out that Idris loved K. Michelle, it was like turning wine into Arbor Mist … that’s hilarious. Go ahead, laugh. No, it was hilarious, but you gotta understand for a young Black girl, for y’all to do this … that man has never denied me. My biggest selling album, to this day, that still charts, is about me and him,” she noted.
K. Michelle still thinks highly of Idris. “He doesn’t, we don’t, play them games about each other,” she said in the interview.
“Idris was amazing. He was an amazing man. I have nothing bad to say about Idris. We went through what we went through. I sent my album to him first. And he said, ‘This is a masterpiece. I hate that we’ve gone through this.’ “
Yet the singer also noted that people’s misperception of the actor bothered her. “I am so sick of y’all … You talking about a DJ that was in the streets and in Hackney … I don’t care how fine, how Denzel [Washington] y’all want him to be,” she said.
