David Harbour has opened up about the surprisingly funny reason he envied the kids from Stranger Things. It wasn’t their age, their social media followings, or even the cast’s endless energy after grueling shoots. He was jealous for a reason nobody saw coming.
David Harbour reveals why he was jealous of kid co-stars on Stranger Things set
David Harbour has shared the unexpected reason he found himself envious of his young Stranger Things co-stars on set.
On Thursday night in Los Angeles, Harbour joined fellow cast and crew members from the Netflix hit for a discussion about the series. The Thunderbolts* actor looked back on his first days on set with his young co-stars, many of whom had little control over their bodily functions.
“These kids were just enjoyable as hell,” he revealed. “A lot of kid actors that you work with are very actor-y… and part of the strength of the actors that they formed were that, at their essence, Noah and all these little kids were just kind of kids. Even during takes, they would fart and do things that were – you just couldn’t believe that you had the relaxation to do that in front of a camera. I was like, ‘That’s incredible relaxation. I would dream of being able to do that. Not being self-conscious in that way'” (via Entertainment Weekly).
The outlet’s Instagram comment section exploded with fans wheezing over Harbour’s revelation. “This is so funny, they are Down to earth kids,” read a comment. “This is hilarious!” wrote another fan while many flooded the post with laughing-crying emojis.
Harbour was already a 17-year industry veteran when Stranger Things finally put him on the map. Audiences met Jim Hopper as a broken small-town chief of police, drowning his grief in alcohol after losing his daughter. Even with all that darkness, Harbour recalled that the relaxed, carefree vibe of the kids he worked with made shooting the show unforgettable.
Creators Matt and Ross Duffer recently told Harbour that Billy Crudup was their first choice for Hopper, but Crudup declined. Harbour won the role after one taped audition wowed the Duffer brothers.
