Experts warn that Sydney Sweeney’s graphic s*x scenes in Euphoria could overshadow the talent she has to offer. For those unversed, Sweeney has raised eyebrows with her hypersexualised character arc in the third season of the series. The 28-year-old has routinely featured in raunchy scenes, stripping naked and performing explicit scenes on camera.
Expert weighs in on Sydney Sweeney’s Euphoria scenes and her talent
Experts weighed in on Sydney Sweeney’s headline-making s*x scenes in Euphoria and her talent. They warned that while Sweeney is making bank with her provocative image, this could have serious repercussions on her future work opportunities. Crisis and reputation management expert Dave Quast exclusively spoke to Fox News Digital.
Quast shared, “‘Euphoria’ clearly helped establish Sydney Sweeney as a fearless performer, physically and emotionally, and that’s part of why she broke through. The risk is that when the public conversation focuses more on the s*xualized aspects of the role than on the performance, the same work that made her seem daring can start to narrow the brand.”
Furthermore, he explained, “S*xuality on screen is not inherently unserious. The problem is when it becomes the dominant shorthand for the actor. For Sweeney, the challenge is not that she has played s*xualized roles. The challenge is making sure those roles continue to read as character choices, not as the entire brand proposition.”
While Sweeney faces criticism for her hypers*xualised portrayal of Cassie, Quast said it is indirectly boosting her career. However, another crisis PR and reputation management expert, Kelcey Kintner, warned that a short-term career boost does not necessarily translate to long-term credibility.
Kintner stated, “If every headline is about her body, the showy scenes, or how provocative the role is, that can make it harder for the public to actually focus on and see her talent. However, she added that Sweeney seems to be trying to find “a balance in her career and grow as an actress.”
Furthermore, Kintner noted, “The issue is that Euphoria is such a loud show culturally. It can overpower everything else in the conversation.” She said that even if the actress “is doing strong work elsewhere, one explicit or controversial scene can dominate a news cycle.”
