Nikki Glaser’s Blunt Take on MAGA Comedy’s ‘Racist’ Jokes

Comedian Nikki Glaser finally added her verdict in the raging stand-up controversy, saying that MAGA-coded comedians are prone to making racial comments.

Trying to maintain a diplomatic stance, Glaser said that the problem wasn’t essentially the nature of the joke, but the fact that comedians cannot manage to make it “palatable,” referring to Tony Hinchcliffe’s tone-deaf joke on George Floyd in the Netflix special “The Roast of Kevin Hart.”

Nikki Glaser shares her take on the “racist” jokes MAGA comedians usually go for

Glaser, who rose to fame for her extraordinary performance at Roast of Tom Brady, said, “Ironically, racist jokes–the problem is not that it’s racist. It’s like sometimes you’ve got to find a way, if you really want to do a joke, you’ve got to find a way to make it make sense. You can’t just like say it, and it’s out of nowhere…” Glaser said that she had thoroughly enjoyed the show, though she stayed away from participating this time due to scheduling conflicts and the intense strain the format places on the artist.

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, 41, has been at the receiving end of a raging controversy after he made a “racist” joke on the show. At the Netflix roast, Hinchcliffe told Hart, 46, “The Black community is so proud of you… right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can’t breathe.”

Hart also attracted the anger of the civil rights community for not intervening and stopping Hinchcliffe from performing the joke. Past images of him flying to Minneapolis for George Floyd’s funeral are being cited to demonstrate his hypocrisy on the topic. Floyd’s family has also come out with a blustering statement saying that they were “baffled and disgusted” with the joke and that it was “sad for culture.”

Hart has stiffly resisted any demands to edit out the controversial segment, upholding the comedian’s creative license and the no-holds-barred nature of the roast format.
