In the opening monologue of Tuesday night’s show of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host and comedian joked about the real reason why Donald Trump did not attend his son’s wedding on Saturday.
“DJTJ and his new bride, Bettina, were married on Saturday on a private island in the Bahamas. It was a small ceremony with about 40 guests, none of whom were his father,” Kimmel began.
Ahead of the wedding, Trump confirmed that he won’t be present at the ceremony in a May 22 Truth Social post. “While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” the POTUS wrote.
He added, “I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina!”
Kimmel then joked about an alternate reason why Trump didn’t attend the wedding, referring to the president’s relationship with financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The comedian said, “He had circumstances pertaining to government to get to, and also flying to a private island makes him miss his friend Jeffrey, who he lost.”
