Ted Cruz Blasts Gavin Newsom Over California Gas Prices

US Senator Ted Cruz recently called out California Governor Gavin Newsom over the gas prices in the state. This comes after Newsom grilled the multinational energy company, Chevron, over gas prices at its outlets. The California governor also urged the state’s citizens not to have their tanks refueled at Chevron’s outlets.

Ted Cruz calls out Gavin Newsom over gas prices

Republican Senator Ted Cruz recently took a dig at Gavin Newsom over high gas prices in California. He compared the prices of Chevron outlets in Texas and California and called out the governor.

Cruz’s shot at the Democratic governor comes after Newsom criticized the energy company, Chevron, in a social media post. The Senator shared an image of the price of gas at a Chevron outlet in Texas on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account and wrote, “Just filled my tank. In Texas, gas is $3.99 a gallon. Hey Gavin—the problem isn’t Chevron, it’s California’s stupid energy policies….”

Earlier, Newsom called out Chevron for high gas prices at its California outlets. He shared maps of two outlets in the state, one in Solano County and the other in Sacramento County, and instructed Californians to avoid these over the Memorial Day weekend. He wrote on X, “Californians, if you’re hitting the road this holiday weekend, be sure to AVOID Chevron. Pro tip: unbranded gas comes from the same refineries, storage tanks, and pipelines, and it meets the same state standards to keep your engine running clean, even if it doesn’t have a fancy name like ‘Techron.’ Big Oil is already making billions off Trump’s Iran War; don’t let them rip you off even more by overpaying for the brand name.”

The aforementioned social media posts come amid the crisis of rising gas prices in the country since Donald Trump began military action against Iran.

According to a report by The New York Post, in their reply to Newsom, Chevron labeled Newsom’s post an “unfortunate attack” on them.
