As anticipation keeps growing for Euphoria Season 3, Sydney Sweeney has reportedly shared her thoughts on one aspect of Cassie’s storyline.
The actress is said to have asked creator Sam Levinson to keep the character’s nude scenes in the upcoming season.
Sydney Sweeney went directly to Sam Levinson when he considered cutting “Cassie’s” nude scenes
In an interview with The New York Times, Sam Levinson commented, “Well, it’s funny. When I first wrote it, I was like, ‘Maybe we shoot all of this, and we don’t have any nudity. ‘ Levinson also said, “And she looked at me, and she was like, ‘Are you kidding? I’m playing an OnlyFans model. You’re telling me you’re going to, like, skirt around it?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, OK, that’s a fair point.’”
The character of Cassie Howard has been criticized for being over-sexualized by sensitive audiences. Despite the controversy that had forced Levinson to edit out the nude scenes, Sweeney pushed back and defended Levinson’s choice of including adult content in Season 3.
“You know the role requires a certain amount of nudity. Are you comfortable? If they’re comfortable, they get the role; then the next layer is the intimacy coordinator. I think it’s a SAG rule that if an actor then says, after getting cast, ‘Actually, I don’t want to do that,’ we can’t force them to do a scene,” Levinson said.
Levinson also stressed that scenes are decided with the consent of actors, and he is very careful about protecting them, saying, “I believe very strongly that the best, most honest performances are when an actor feels free and safe. So my job is to create the kind of best, most conducive environment for the actor to play this character.”
The Euphoria creator complimented Sweeney, saying that she is “wonderfully professional” and “totally fearless”.
