Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left their royal duties in 2020 for a life in the U.S., but they were not the only royals who gave up on their duties. King Edward VIII also left the throne when his marriage to Wallis Simpson was being objected to. While drawing comparisons between the two couples, an expert questioned Markle’s loyalty to her husband, saying he is unsure if the former actress would do “anything” for the Duke.

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave up their royal duties and moved their base to America in 2020, an expert believes he was following the steps of another past monarch, King Edward VIII, who also left his royal duties for his lady love, Wallis Simpson. According to royal historian Hugo Vickers, author of the new book, “Behind Closed Doors: The Tragic Untold Story of Wallis Simpson,” there are more similarities between Harry and the Duke of Windsor than between Wallis and Markle.
“I think the only similarity [between Meghan and Mrs Simpson] is that they’re American and they’d been married before. The Duke of Windsor would do anything for Mrs Simpson, and I don’t know if Meghan would do the same for Harry,” Vickers told the Mirror.
Shedding more light on the similarities between the two royal members, the author stated that both Harry and the past monarch were “feeling the pressure of their royal standing.” Moreover, the author thinks the two “were very happy and they were good at what they did” before deciding to step back from their royal duties, as “Harry seems a lot less fulfilled since choosing the path of perceived happiness to be with Meghan.”
And it seems Sussexes’ marriage is indeed hitting rock bottom, as an insider told Woman’s Day the couple is reportedly anxious about money as well as an increasing emotional distance between them. “They’re at the lowest point in their marriage,” claimed the source.
