Dr. Jill Biden, wife of former President Joe Biden, appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe talk show to promote her memoir “View from the East Wing.”
She said that the Trump administration’s reversal of policies is “heartbreaking” and a deviation from all that the former president had built during his term.
Appearing on Morning Joe, Dr. Biden shares remorse at seeing good programs being cut under Donald Trump
Dr. Biden told host Willie Geist that her husband’s progressive food programs and “health programs cut or the research money for women’s health” have been erased under the current president.
She lamented the current state of affairs and pitted Trump’s nationalist stance against the former president’s “pro-people” approach. She said that Joe was dedicated to “make life better for the American people,” and it is sad that his legacy has been erased. “We have lost so much institutional memory,” she said.
The former first lady complained about Trump’s overhaul of her favorite East Wing to make a massive ballroom. “I loved my offices in the East Wing,” and added, “(You could see) the excitement that people would feel as they came in to take the picture with their families.”
The talk show also touched upon Joe’s underwhelming debate performance against Donald Trump in 2024, which she described as “inexplicable”. The debate can be called a turning point that ended Joe’s reelection chances, and paved the way for a Kamala Harris takeover, which also ended in disappointment.
Coming to her husband’s cancer diagnosis in 2025, which led to public questions about his fitness. Previously, Donald Trump’s infamous “sleepy Joe” comments mocked the former president’s health and pitched it against his “excellent health.”
Dr. Biden said that though “cancer is hard,” there is hope for her husband, as he is “okay” and continuing to give speeches.
