Hugh Jackman Opens up About His Very Rare Wolverine-Like Trait

Hugh Jackman recently said the anger fueling Wolverine exists within him, though it rarely surfaces. After spending more than two decades connected to Marvel’s most famous mutant, Jackman says the role has shaped him in unexpected ways. The actor reflected on how playing the character affected both his personality and the way he handles emotions.

Hugh Jackman shares this trait with his character Wolverine

Most fans know Jackman as the charming performer behind Wolverine, but the actor says there is more overlap between him and the character than people might expect. During an appearance on Last Meals, Jackman explained that the public usually sees a carefully presented version of who he is. “The Hugh you’re meeting now is a version of me that I want you to see,” he told host Josh Scherer.

That conversation eventually turned to anger, a trait often associated with Wolverine. Jackman admitted that he carries “a lot of that rage,” though it emerges only occasionally. He even suggested that playing the character may have helped him channel those feelings in a healthy way. “It may be rarely because I played Wolverine. That’s the beauty of it,” he said, adding that accessing that emotional intensity is still easy for him when needed.

One example came while filming Deadpool & Wolverine. Jackman recalled a fight scene with Ryan Reynolds that felt so convincing Reynolds jokingly worried it might become real. After the scene, Reynolds reportedly told him, “There was no part of me that didn’t think you were gonna punch me in the face.” Jackman laughed off the moment but admitted the emotion behind Wolverine is genuine enough to tap into quickly. “But it’s easy for me to access. So, it’s there, man,” Jackman says.

Jackman first played Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men and went on to portray the mutant in nine additional films, including last year’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. Beyond Marvel, the actor has earned acclaim for projects such as The Prestige, Les Misérables, Prisoners and The Greatest Showman.
