Bill Maher Joins Charlie Kirk Documentary: ‘I Liked Him as a Person’

Renowned comedian and political commentator Bill Maher has confirmed that he will be making an appearance in the upcoming Charlie Kirk documentary. In a recent sit-down, the former late-night talk show host announced his involvement in the project about the slain Turning Point USA founder’s life, before adding that he “liked him as a person.”

Bill Maher all set to appear in Charlie Kirk documentary

On the June 8 episode of his podcast, which featured fan-favorite ventriloquist Jeff Dunham as the guest, the Real Time with Bill Maher host revealed that he has agreed to feature in a forthcoming documentary about Charlie Kirk.

“By the way, they’re doing a documentary, and they asked if I would be in it,” Bill Maher noted on Club Random. “I said yes. I’m giving them five minutes after my taping Friday night because — and I told them, ‘Don’t expect me to be just saying you know, hagiography about Charlie.’ I liked him as a person. I’m glad I talked to him.”

Notably, Maher had interviewed Charlie Kirk last year. The duo had a lengthy conversation about faith, politics, and culture, despite having contrasting views on several topics. However, five months after their meet-up, the conservative activist was tragically assassinated during his visit to Utah Valley University.

“I do not think he was a monster,” the 70-year-old media personality continued. “And if you look at his statements, I’ve read the full statements — of course, because everybody is only interested in getting points for their team. They mischaracterized them.”

Bill Maher further defended Charlie Kirk by saying, “Even when I read the full statement, which were accurately characterized, I still disagreed with them. But it wasn’t what they presented. Again, it’s always in the middle. It wasn’t as bad as they said, but I still disagree.”

Meanwhile, Jeff Dunham, Maher’s guest for the day, lauded him for carrying out a coherent interview with Kirk last year. He stated, “That’s what I loved about the interview is that you sat there and considered things and listened to him, let him talk, and it was a really great discussion.”
