Marvel Star Simu Liu Defends Hudson Williams Over Swastika Photo Controversy

Simu Liu is backing actor Hudson Williams amid recent social media scrutiny. The 37-year-old Marvel actor condemned the online hate campaign targeting Williams after a controversial photo from his teenage years surfaced, showing him with a swastika drawn on his forehead.

Here’s what Simu Liu said about the Hudson Williams swastika backlash

Addressing the controversy on Threads, Liu said the backlash points to a broader pattern involving minority public figures. He also drew on his own experiences with online harassment to highlight the current situation, writing, “I have this very specific trauma attached to people on the internet fabricating things about me and twisting things into a massive hate campaign when I first broke out. I began to recognize patterns whenever people of colour specifically had a moment of visibility. It happened like clockwork, and I see it happening now. The internet is insane. Bad actors are everywhere. If you’re here, be careful.”

In another post, the Kim’s Convenience actor criticized BuzzFeed’s reporting. He wrote, “For an organization that has become synonymous with clickbait to never grow, never evolve, never have a moment of self-awareness, and just carry on publishing vile sensationalist bullshit like this is just sad.” He criticized the publication for targeting people of color without justification and said its reporting standards had fallen, comparing it to outlets like TMZ.

The 25-year-old Williams, who shot to stardom for playing Shane Hollander in Heated Rivalry, has not issued any statement yet. However, sources told TMZ he was unaware of what had been drawn on his face at the time, and he “deeply regrets” the photo. They described the incident as a group of underage teenagers “doing dumb things” while under the influence.

A friend commented, “The markings do not and have never reflected Hudson’s beliefs, values, or character.” As the controversy continues to generate discussion online, Liu’s comments have added another perspective to the debate, while attention remains focused on whether Williams will publicly address the situation himself.
