Zac Efron Reportedly Building Australia Home Using Cannabis-Based Materials

Zac Efron is taking his love of sustainable living to an entirely new level with an ambitious home project in Australia. The “High School Musical” alum is reportedly building a sprawling eco-friendly residence that will be constructed largely from hemp-based materials, turning heads and sparking plenty of conversation online.

While celebrity homes often make headlines for luxury features and eye-popping price tags, Efron’s latest project is attracting attention for a very different reason: cannabis plants.

Zac Efron’s Australia home project is raising eyebrows for using controversial materials

According to the Australian Financial Review, Efron is collaborating with designer and environmental innovator Joost Bakker on a sustainable property dubbed “FutureCave.” The home will sit on a massive 316-acre parcel of land near the border of Queensland and New South Wales that the actor purchased in 2020.

The project is expected to use hemp-based materials throughout much of the construction process. That includes structural elements as well as household items such as mattresses, curtains, and pillows. Bakker has even floated the idea of incorporating a hemp-drum washing machine into the design.

The planned residence will reportedly feature six bedrooms, a rooftop garden, and expansive living spaces designed around environmentally conscious principles.

Bakker has been documenting the project on social media, recently sharing photos with Efron and members of the design team. In one Instagram post, he celebrated the project’s approval and expressed excitement about bringing the unconventional vision to life.

For Efron, the move appears to be part of a broader lifestyle shift. The actor has spent significant time in Australia in recent years and has frequently spoken about his appreciation for sustainability and nature. He previously revealed that actor Russell Crowe encouraged him to invest in Australian property, advice he ultimately followed.

Efron also praised Bakker’s own sustainable home, saying it inspired him to rethink what he wanted from a permanent residence.

While the use of hemp-derived materials may sound unusual to some, advocates argue the crop can offer environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional building products while supporting healthier farming practices.

Whether FutureCave becomes a blueprint for sustainable celebrity living or simply one of Hollywood’s most unique home projects remains to be seen. Either way, Efron’s Australian dream house is already generating plenty of buzz.
