As per Rob Shuter, Whoopi Goldberg could prove to be a major obstacle in Rosie O’Donnell’s return to The View. O’Donnell shared that she’d recently reunited with Whoopi at a Broadway performance of Cats: The Jellicle Ball. O’Donnell only had good things to say about the unexpectedly sweet encounter.
She said: “Whoopi has been very kind,” noting that the 70-year-old looked “fantastic.” Goldberg returned the compliment on the show, telling viewers that O’Donnell looked “great” and had some interesting projects lined up.
However, a few years ago, O’Donnell described working alongside Goldberg as the “worst experience” of her television career. Not only that, she also claimed in a Howard Stern interview that “Whoopi really didn’t like me.”
A TV insider dished: “The personal relationship has improved tremendously. But that doesn’t automatically mean Whoopi wants Rosie back at the table.” The source explained that Goldberg commands immense respect and if she wanted, she would have campaigned for O’Donnell’s return already. The insider stated, “Whoopi has earned enormous respect behind the scenes. If she were campaigning for Rosie to return, it would happen. The fact that it hasn’t tells you where things stand.”
However, insiders insist “never say never” and that anything is possible in the world of showbiz. A source shared: “Never say never. The feud is over. The friendship is improving. But a full View return is still a very different conversation.”
