Whoopi Goldberg has a new idea for dealing with the controversy surrounding the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. During a recent episode of “The View,” the longtime moderator suggested that someone should consider legal action over the troubled renovation project tied to Donald Trump.
The conversation unfolded as the ABC panel discussed reports of algae growth, peeling paint, and ongoing issues at the historic Washington, D.C., landmark following renovation work that has drawn criticism in recent weeks.
Whoopi Goldberg’s reflecting pool comment on The View sparks discussion about a possible lawsuit
Monday’s episode of “The View” took aim at the condition of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool after images surfaced showing workers dealing with an algae outbreak and visible deterioration in parts of the renovation.
While examining photos from the site, Whoopi Goldberg initially struggled to contain her amusement.
At one point, she joked that workers standing in the water looked as though they were fishing. But the laughter quickly gave way to frustration as the discussion turned to the cost and condition of the project.
“I want somebody to sue,” Goldberg declared. “Because if a contractor did this at your house, this is what you would do.”
The television personality went on to argue that taxpayers would likely demand accountability if a private contractor delivered similar results.
“I think the country needs to say, ‘We’re suing you. Suing you for doing this without our permission, and we’re suing the people who did it, because clearly they didn’t know what they were doing.’ Clearly!” Goldberg said.
She later softened the remark slightly, adding, “But, you know, it’s just a suggestion. Because a lot of money is going away.”
The discussion was sparked in part by Donald Trump’s recent comments blaming vandals for damage to the reflecting pool. According to Goldberg, the explanation didn’t add up.
“It seems to me that had he not messed with the pool, it would still be a reflecting pool instead of a liquid jungle,” she joked.
Goldberg also questioned claims that a small group of individuals was responsible for the site’s current condition, noting that she had not seen evidence to support those allegations.
The spirited exchange quickly became one of the episode’s most talked-about moments, proving once again that when The View tackles politics, the conversation rarely stays calm for long.
