Mila Kunis offered a glimpse into her marriage with Ashton Kutcher, revealing why she believes their relationship has an “ease.” The couple’s journey began long before they became husband and wife, having first met on the set of That ’70s Show, where Kunis was 14, and Kutcher was 19.
Mila Kunis says trust and respect anchor her marriage to Ashton Kutcher
During the June 22 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the 42-year-old actress shared that their marriage has been easier because they grew up together. “I mean, I married my best friend. But to back it up, when we reconnected, I was 27. And I was a very different person than I was when I was 25, let alone when I was 21 or 19. You go through different changes, and you evolve. Hopefully, you grow, you become different,” Kunis explained, as quoted by EW.
She continued by saying, “But he knew me through all of them, and I knew him through all of it, through like the good, the bad, the ugly, you know, and vice versa. So when we reconnected, there was no getting to know each other, there was no, ‘But let me tell you all these hidden secrets.’ There was nothing to hide. So it makes it really easy.”
Kunis said the foundation of her marriage is built on mutual respect, noting that she and Kutcher have known each other since she was 14 and he was 19. She added that people naturally grow and evolve, and that having known each other since their teenage years has had a lasting impact on their relationship.
The Friends with Benefits actress explained that they have always been able to grow together because they have already experienced so many stages of life side by side. As a result, she said, “There’s a trust behind it.”
According to People, Kunis and Kutcher first met while starring as Jackie Burkhart and Michael Kelso on That ’70s Show. After the series ended, the two went their separate ways, and in 2005, Kutcher wed actress Demi Moore. And at the time, Kunis had been dating Macaulay Culkin before parting ways in early 2011. In the same year, Moore revealed she and Kutcher were ending their marriage.
Kunis and Kutcher began dating in 2012 and got engaged in February 2014. They welcomed daughter Wyatt that October and got married on July 4, 2015, in a ceremony at the Secret Garden at Parrish Ranch in Oak Glen, California. They later also welcomed son Dimitri in November 2016.
In 2018, the actress spoke on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, reports People. “Had we connected [in the past], would we have connected? No. The people that we were back then would never be together. But it’s just such a bummer that we missed out on 20 years together. I look back, and I think, ‘We could have spent 20 years together.’”
