Summer isn’t over yet. NBCUniversal has just announced that a new edition of Summer House is headed to our screens, and this time, they’re taking the summer fun to Canada. Yes, we’re getting Summer House Canada, and production has officially kicked off! We’ve got all of the tea to expect from the first-ever international expansion.
Hayu’s Canadian Summer House project and reality TV surprise
Earlier this year, Summer House producers teased that they were interested in expanding the franchise. We heard rumblings about a show set in Missouri’s Ozarks. We heard desperate pleas for a reboot of Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard. A spinoff in Canada probably wasn’t on anyone’s radar, but Hayu is making it happen.
NBCU confirmed in a press release that they’ve greenlit Summer House Canada, the first international adaptation of the Emmy-nominated series. It will launch on Hayu in 2027, mirroring the exact same format that we’ve grown to love from our beloved New York-based crew.
Although there’s no word on casting, NBCU execs promise this series will follow in the exact same footsteps as its predecessor. Expect a blend of relationship drama, career conversations, and friendship crises. The only difference is that instead of bouncing between New York City and the Hamptons, this crew will split their time between Toronto and the lakeside cottages of Muskoka, Ontario.
Of course, this new crew will have some big shoes to fill after a decade of Summer House on Bravo, but the NBCU execs seem confident in this gamble.
“We’re thrilled to bring this adaptation of the standout Summer House format to the market – and Muskoka offers the perfect, iconic Canadian setting to introduce Summer House Canada and build on the franchise’s momentum,” Hendrik McDermott, Managing Director, International DTC (direct to consumer) at NBCUniversal, gushed in a statement
Summer House Canada is the second original series Hayu has adapted, following the debut of The Real Housewives of London. RHOLDN is already making its way to Bravo and Peacock as Hayu gears up for Season 2. Fingers crossed Summer House Canada eventually gets the same treatment stateside.
Summer House, the original version, is streaming on Peacock, and Summer House Canada hits Hayu in 2027.
