In a press release on July 14, FIFA announced that Tom Cruise, who is promoting his upcoming film Digger, set to release on October 2, will join the closing ceremony lineup. The news quickly thrilled fans. One wrote, “The words ‘Tom Cruise’ and ‘special appearance’ have never meant ‘normal.'” Another commented, “My favorite actor [at’ the biggest football event. Can’t miss it.” One fan shared a playful prediction about his appearance, saying, “He’s probably going to parachute in with the trophy.”

This comes following his infamous show in 2024, where Cruise made a dramatic entrance at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony, reports BroBible. He jumped from the Stade de France roof and accepted the official Olympic flag from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

In a statement, 2026 FIFA World Cup Chief Operating Officer Heimo Schirgi said, as quoted by ABC News, “Echoing the spirit of the opening ceremonies, which welcomed the world to the greatest stage in Canada, Mexico and the United States, the closing ceremony will bring the FIFA World Cup 2026 full circle through music, culture and football, before we kick off the highly anticipated match that will crown the champions of this groundbreaking tournament.”

This year’s closing ceremony, which will begin 90 minutes ahead of the final at 1:30 p.m. on July 19, will also feature performances from Italian singer-songwriter Laura Pausini, American singer and actress Nicole Scherzinger, English singer-songwriter Robbie Williams, and YouTube creator IShowSpeed. Jennifer Hudson, an EGOT winner with an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, will perform the U.S. national anthem.
