Nicki Minaj faces legal trouble over a dispute involving legal costs. The rapper reportedly failed to pay nearly $230,000 in fees to her former law firm. The legal trouble comes as she faces multiple financial claims, adding to her legal challenges.
A judge issues a warning to Nicki Minaj after she repeatedly ignores a collection lawsuit seeking close to $230,000
The dispute stems from legal fees allegedly owed to Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, the law firm that represented Minaj in a copyright lawsuit for roughly two years. The firm sued her earlier this year, alleging she failed to pay outstanding invoices.
Composer Julius Johnson accused the singer of modifying his beat of “I Lied.” Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani represented the rapper, and the copyright case was settled in 2024. However, since then, the rapper has failed to pay their dues.
Although the copyright case was resolved, the dispute over the firm’s legal costs has become another legal concern. The law firm filed a lawsuit in March, which she ignored.
According to TMZ, Minaj’s failure to respond prompted the clerk to enter a default against her. A judge has now ordered her to explain why a default judgment for $229,541 in unpaid legal fees should not be entered. If the court grants the default judgment, the law firm could pursue collection efforts to recover the money.
However, this isn’t the first time Minaj has faced a default judgment. Earlier, a judge warned her that her Los Angeles-area home could be sold for the judgment, and she ultimately paid $500,000. The rapper has another lawsuit against her by a concert production company alleging that she owes them $275,000.
The Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani lawsuit adds to the rapper’s ongoing legal trouble over alleged unpaid bills.
