Tom Holland returned to “Hot Ones” expecting another difficult round of increasingly spicy wings. Instead, the Spider-Man actor left the table with an unexpected place in the show’s history.
Tom Holland set an unusual Hot Ones record while promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Holland joined Jon Bernthal for the July 23 episode of First We Feast’s “Hot Ones”. The co-stars answered Sean Evans’ questions while promoting “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which arrives in theatres July 31.
Holland completed the full wing lineup, but the trouble came after the interview. While he, Bernthal and Evans filmed an introductory shot, Holland began coughing, bent below the table and vomited. The table blocked the act, although the reactions around him made the outcome clear.
Bernthal celebrated by shouting, “Let’s go!” and encouraging the crew to photograph it. Holland quickly recovered and gave the production permission to use the footage. He also joked that he had kept his Louis Vuitton outfit clean.
When Bernthal asked whether another guest had ever thrown up during filming, Evans replied, “That might be the first on set ever.” Holland embraced the unusual distinction, saying, “I love being the first.”
The moment was new to viewers, but Holland had already spoiled it. During a July 13 NYT Cooking interview with Matt Damon, he revealed that he had “fully vomited on camera” after filming the challenge. Holland blamed the result partly on the amount of milk he drank to control the heat.
The actor has remained busy promoting two major releases. He recently revisited his thoughts on playing Spider-Man in his 30s and described his difficult first day working on Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”. He has also shared how Zendaya made filming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” easier for him.
Holland finished every wing and kept laughing after the mishap. Still, his return proved that defeating the sauce lineup does not always mean escaping the challenge unscathed.
