King Charles and Prince William are reportedly facing “real tension” over a key royal issue. The father-son duo has worked closely since the 77-year-old monarch ascended the throne. The Prince of Wales has since taken on a more visible role representing the Crown at home and abroad.
King Charles reportedly has an issue with Prince William’s ‘light’ workload
Sources told RadarOnline that King Charles and Prince William are privately at odds over matters of work and image. The insiders claim that His Majesty is currently finding the crown prince more difficult to deal with than his younger son, Prince Harry.
Speaking of whom, the Duke of Sussex wrapped up a four-day U.K. visit featuring Invictus Games appearances and a Clarence House meeting with his father. Analysts noted that the visit was received more positively by the public than anticipated.
Tracing back to the cause of his annoyance, Charles completed 175 days of official engagements in the past year. During this period, William’s public calendar has included several holidays and only a limited number of appearances. “There is a growing sense that the King feels the weight of the institution resting largely on his shoulders, particularly when he looks at how busy his own schedule has been compared with his heir’s,” revealed a palace insider.
“From the King’s perspective, there is a delicate balance to strike between updating the role for a modern era and appearing to step back from the responsibilities that give the monarchy its purpose,” the individual added. “When he sees that he is pushing through a demanding program of work,… while William’s public commitments sometimes look relatively light, it becomes more than just a scheduling issue – it starts to feel like a source of real tension.”
Additionally, royal biographer Tina Brown explained that Charles genuinely values William’s commitment to being a hands-on, present father. But he finds it hard that this image invites comparisons to his own past that rarely reflect well on him. According to a source, it brings up “old sensitivities” about the kind of parent he was while trying to balance duty with family life.
