Nicole Curtis has entered another legal fight after the city of Detroit filed a lawsuit over one of her properties. The former Rehab Addict is now being sued for a long-neglected house that is not safe, following a previous court order. The latest case comes on the heels of a challenging time in her career after her HGTV show was cancelled.
Former HGTV Star Nicole Curtis Faces Detroit Lawsuit Following Career Fallout
The City of Detroit sued Curtis, 49, and her business, Detroit Renovations LLC, for civil nuisance abatement. According to the Detroit Free Press, Curtis’ company has owned the property since a 2021 court ruling. The lawsuit claims the home has remained a danger to the surrounding community. It also cites a 2021 order by Wayne County Circuit Judge Timothy Kenny mandating renovations to the property.
The suit alleges that the owners failed to make the necessary repairs. The city also alleges that Curtis was aware of ongoing code violations, including structural decay and garbage. Officials say those problems resulted in more than 25 violation tickets over the years. Detroit now seeks the court’s ruling that the home is a public nuisance and that it be fixed and fines be paid.
The lawsuit marks another setback for Curtis after HGTV canceled Rehab Addict. The network pulled the series after video surfaced that Curtis used a racial slur during filming. Rehab Addict first premiered in 2010 and followed Curtis as she restored historic homes to prevent demolition. In July 2025, Curtis announced the show was coming to a halt and that Season 9, Part 2, would be delayed to February 2026.
Before the show’s cancellation, Curtis also spoke publicly about her life for years away from the show. She described changes in her time off and her expectations for the show’s return before the controversy put an end to that. The new lawsuit puts yet another hurdle in the way of the former HGTV star. The case is ongoing, with the city asking for repairs and unpaid fines.
