Hilaria Baldwin, wife of Alec Baldwin, opened up about her struggles with eating disorders spanning almost two decades. The Dancing With the Stars alum said it got to the point where she was counting the calories in her toothpaste.
Hilaria Baldwin says her decades-long struggle with eating disorders began during childhood
Hilaria appeared on SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio and revealed that she started dieting at just 5 years old. The reality star, who shares seven children with Alec Baldwin, reminisced about some of the lowest points in her health journey. She said in the exclusive interview, “I did all of it. I did anorexia, I did bulimia, I did overeating, I did undereating.” She also spoke about how she was “afraid of how many calories might be in toothpaste.”
According to Page Six, the Nation’s Dumbest star credited her ADHD with helping her become “hyperfocussed” on healing. She recalled feeling lost: “I don’t want to live this way; I’m miserable,” she expressed about the struggle. She added, “I can’t have good relationships, I can’t have good friendships, I can’t eat out to dinner with people. It’s just so, so, so stressful.”
Fortunately, she is dedicated to making sure her disorders do not affect her children. She explained that she now tries to strengthen her children’s bond with food.
In fact, Hilaria “can’t wait” to post a video of herself and her youngest daughter slurping down two pints of Häagen-Dazs ice cream, something that was unthinkable before.
The Baldwin star had previously opened up about her journey in a 2018 Instagram post. She wrote that she had shifted her perspective from “focusing on weight” to focusing on “how healthy” she is.
Now in a healthier place, Hilaria says she is focused on ensuring her children grow up with a positive relationship with food.
