‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ star Patricia Heaton has joined the growing list of people pushing to keep NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani from the 9/11 memorial this year. The actress encouraged New Yorkers to support the ongoing campaign.

Patricia Heaton took to X to talk about Mamdani’s ban from the 9/11 memorial. She wrote, “Keep it going, New Yorkers.” The actress reshared a post stating that thousands of New Yorkers have signed a petition to bar Mamdani from attending the 9/11 memorial this year, according to Us Weekly.
The post she shared also featured a quote, “Is disqualified from attending the 9/11 remembrance ceremony and ought to be barred,” from someone who lost a family member in 9/11.
Earlier this year, people who lost family members in 9/11 started an online petition to ban Mamdani from the memorial.
The petition has drawn criticism from many who described it as Islamophobic.
One user said, “This is pathetic anti-Muslim hate. Pull yourself together.”
Another user said, “What happened to you, Patricia?! You’ve lost your mind w/ this constant spewing of different conspiracy theories & lies each day. Put the keyboard down & find a skilled therapist ASAP.??♀️” One X user commented, “He was a nine-year-old kid when this happened. ??♀️” Another commented, “An opportunity for healing thrown out of the window by people who believe collective punishment should still be a thing.”
Mamdani responded to the petition during a CBS News New York interview. He said, “I will proudly honor the families, the survivors [and] the first responders forever impacted by that horrific terror attack by standing alongside them at this year’s 9/11 commemoration.”
The NYC mayor is usually expected to join 9/11 ceremonies as a civic and traditional duty. However, many 9/11 victims and their families allegedly want Mamdani to keep his distance from 9/11 ceremonies.
