KATSEYE member Sophia Laforteza refuses to let online hate get to her. The singer opened up about social media hate and offline support in her recent appearance on a Therapuss podcast.
Sophia said social media negativity is outweighed by real fans showing up offline
Laforteza spoke about the hate the KATSEYE group gets online. She said most people online don’t have original thoughts.
“They literally… somebody starts it. Somebody always starts it based on the tiny, tiny little information that they know, filtered literally on your screen on a little rectangle, right? And then they’ll see that and be like, ‘Oh my God, yeah. Yeah, this person’s right. Let’s get really loud.’ They could literally fill this room, but they could sound like a whole stadium,” she added.
She said that online criticism seems overwhelming when she’s checking her phone, but once she steps away, she realizes social media does not reflect her reality.
Sophia said that to avoid online hate affecting her, she reminds herself of offline support. She spoke about performing at Coachella, where many people can’t see or hear the group from the back, but still showed up.
She said, “Then I see the drone footage when I go online, and it’s even bigger. People came to Coachella just to be there. They can’t even see us or hear us all the way from the back, but they showed up. All of those people outnumber the amount of people that are actually making all this noise online. People think that the internet is the whole world, but it’s not.”
She added people online often say, “Stan Twitter could easily be like, ‘KATSEYE’s done.’ No, we’re not.”
“We’re just girls doing our best to empower and impact the world and fulfil our dream. We just want to sing and dance. Then you’re like, ‘Oh my God, KATSEYE‘s done. I’m so mad at that face she just made.’ Close your eyes…I could literally go to your neighbor and ask them, ‘Do you know who I am?’ They’re gonna be like, ‘No.’ Exactly. You guys, come on. The internet is not everything. Go catch some butterflies,” she said.
Sophia made remarks amid their discussion about career and the music industry on the podcast, according to Just Jared. KATSEYE is a K-pop girl group featuring Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Manon Bannerman, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeung.
