CBS’ ‘60 Minutes’ Faces Internal Revolt As Staff Split Over New Direction — Insider

New claims suggest that 60 Minutes continues to face major changes behind the scenes. The news programme is in a new phase, and staff members now find themselves on opposing sides, a new report says. Insiders claim disagreements over the show’s future have created a deep divide inside the newsroom. The reported conflicts follow recent leadership changes at CBS News.

Insiders claim ‘60 Minutes’ is split between old-school veterans and a new generation

According to Naughty But Nice, several insiders claim 60 Minutes has split into two competing groups following changes led by CBS News chief Bari Weiss and executive producer Nick Bilton. One source told the outlet, “It’s old school versus new school, and they barely acknowledge each other anymore.” The insider also said, “Every editorial meeting is like a battle between 60 Minutes and itself.” They said the stress in the newsroom is too extreme to ignore.

Still another source told Naughty But Nice that the longstanding format of the show is no longer relevant in the modern media. The insider claimed the younger team thinks the legacy staff remains “stuck in another era.” The source also alleged that some people privately call longtime correspondent Lesley Stahl “Grandma.” The nickname was “disrespectful,” the insider said, and it reflects the generation gap.

Veteran employees reportedly see the situation very differently. According to one source, they believe they are safeguarding the journalism that made 60 Minutes one of television’s most trusted shows. The insider said, “The old guard believes they’re protecting the soul of the show.” The same source added, “The new crowd thinks they’re tearing down a museum and building something audiences will actually watch.”

The report also notes that Bilton is still building up the show’s digital footprint with more correspondents joining the team. The source claimed, “The new guard was hired to take control. This isn’t a transition — it’s a takeover.” Neither CBS News nor the people mentioned in the report publicly responded to these anonymous claims in the reference material.
